Short Sighted Writing

We can all agree, writing a paper of any length longer than 2 pages, double spaced of course, sucks. And believe me the thought of having a a 10-12 page paper is a horrifying thought the likes of Freddy and Jason. So why not take it slow? Break it up, bit by bit. Now that 10 page paper is a one page paper that you bust out every night for like 20 min tops. Not so bad right? Instead of pulling the allnighters the night before it's due that we have become accustomed to, just sit down once a night for the week or two that your teacher gives you for the paper and bust out a couple paragraphs. Not only will you have a great sense of accomplishment but you will get your assignment done without the hair ripping, caffiene guzzling, therapy inducing all nighters. This worked for me when my Marketing teacher assigned us to create a 14 page sales manual for a product of our choosing. Breaking the paper up into sections and setting individual due dates helped me get it done on time and with only mild cases of carpal tunnel and migranes. Of course I will use this tactic to make my capstone go a little easier. Cause if I have to write a 12 page paper in one night, you may have to schedule me a week in the hospital.

Successful People Quotes

In class today we received a sheet of paper with 14 quotes from successful people explaining how they made it to the top. Authors from Oprah to Thoreau and Emerson made contributions to the piece, so the range of ideals provided was vast. There were two quotes that really caught my eye; one by Emerson and one by Sherry Lansing, Chairman of Paramount Pictures.

1. "Self-trust is the first secret of success" - Ralph Waldo Emerson
I like this quote because i believe that self confidence is the most important trait that a person can possess. As an athelete, and a person that plays individual sports like tennis, if you dont have confidence in yourself there is no way that you will come out on top. You have to think you can beat someone or else you have no chance to do so. To apply this to my capstone project, I have to believe that I can come up with a quality product cause if I dont, it will show in the final results.

2. " The major difference I've found between the highly successful and the least successful is the the highly successful stick to it. They have staying power. Everybody fails. Everybody takes his knocks, but the highly successful keep coming back." - Sherry Lansing
This quote really stuck out to me because it speaks about how successful people do what they dont want to do in order to be successful. In the offseason, tennis conditioning starts at 6am every tuesday and thursday. It sucks. Im not going to lie. Its probably the worst thing I do during the year but it is worth it because it helps us win games. As reigning GMC champions, we have a target on our back. And without being in tip top shape, we are going down. Now capstone has a lot of work that honestly is about as fun as watching paint dry while sitting outside when its hailing, but to have a successful project, it is neccessary to do this work along with the fun stuff. Without it, my project would be incomplete and I would probably fail it. Sweet right? So for me to do my best work, I have to do everything, even the most yawn inducing busy work, to reach my full potential.

"Knowledge is knowing a tomato is a fruit; Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad."

2/10/11 Goals

This year I have set a few academic goals in order for me to achieve the results that I have been trying to accomplish. In order to get into the Universities that I was hoping to attend and get scholarship money from them, I needed to get a 3.7 GPA over the course of the year. So far I have been successful in this venture by maintaining good grades and keeping up with my school work. Without goals I would not have a drive to complete any of my work and honestly senoritis would have taken over years ago.

My rec basketball team is not the most accomplished team in the league to say the least. We average about a 3-9 season every year and get smacked around by the other Sycamore teams when we play them. So last year we set a few reasonable goals for our season, have a win streak, make the playoffs, and win a playoff game. By all of our amazement we were successful in all three of our goals having the most successful season in team history. We finished the season 5-7, had a 3 game win streak, and won 2 games in the postseason tournament. Having reasonable goals made a unsuccessful season for some into a great success for us.

Having goals for the capstone project is very important. Goals will make sure you stay on topic and dont fall behind on all the work that you have to do in order to successfully complete the project. Without goals, there would be no drive to do the work and you will fall way behind and may not even be able to finish the project on time and be able to walk with your class at graduation.
My Goal for this coming week in capstone is to start using diigo to find reputable sources for my research and begin compiling at least 4 good sources/articles for information about technology in the classroom.
