Successful People Quotes

In class today we received a sheet of paper with 14 quotes from successful people explaining how they made it to the top. Authors from Oprah to Thoreau and Emerson made contributions to the piece, so the range of ideals provided was vast. There were two quotes that really caught my eye; one by Emerson and one by Sherry Lansing, Chairman of Paramount Pictures.

1. "Self-trust is the first secret of success" - Ralph Waldo Emerson
I like this quote because i believe that self confidence is the most important trait that a person can possess. As an athelete, and a person that plays individual sports like tennis, if you dont have confidence in yourself there is no way that you will come out on top. You have to think you can beat someone or else you have no chance to do so. To apply this to my capstone project, I have to believe that I can come up with a quality product cause if I dont, it will show in the final results.

2. " The major difference I've found between the highly successful and the least successful is the the highly successful stick to it. They have staying power. Everybody fails. Everybody takes his knocks, but the highly successful keep coming back." - Sherry Lansing
This quote really stuck out to me because it speaks about how successful people do what they dont want to do in order to be successful. In the offseason, tennis conditioning starts at 6am every tuesday and thursday. It sucks. Im not going to lie. Its probably the worst thing I do during the year but it is worth it because it helps us win games. As reigning GMC champions, we have a target on our back. And without being in tip top shape, we are going down. Now capstone has a lot of work that honestly is about as fun as watching paint dry while sitting outside when its hailing, but to have a successful project, it is neccessary to do this work along with the fun stuff. Without it, my project would be incomplete and I would probably fail it. Sweet right? So for me to do my best work, I have to do everything, even the most yawn inducing busy work, to reach my full potential.

"Knowledge is knowing a tomato is a fruit; Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad."
